Major Rookie REP Win Battle of Highway 19
The Belore Trailers Major Rookie REP boys travelled down Highway 19 to face the Tillsonburg Otters in the final of their Home & Home Exhibition series. The Ironbirds jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the top half of the first only to see the Otters answer with three runs of their own. The Ironbird defense settled in after the first inning limiting the Otters attack while maintaining a strong offensive presence of their own. Offensively the Ironbirds were spectacular at the plate crushing the ball and finding the green in the outfield. The Ironbirds offence belted out 25 hits in total with Colten Cumberland & Westin Matsumoto leading the way with four hits apiece, Sam House, Nathan Kapitor, Ryan Wolfe, Brandon Plaquet and Charlie Ashman collecting three hits apiece. The top defensive player of the game was Westin Matsumoto who made two amazing catches in foul territory as well as scooping a couple throws out of the dirt!
The Ironbirds face a tough week with their Season Home Opener on Wednesday vs. the Dorchester Diamondbacks at Victoria Park (6:00pm), then heading on the road for Thorndale on Thursday and finishing with London Tecumsehs on Friday.
