Simcoe Giants Tournament - Game 1 vs. Waterloo Tigers
Ironbirds Declaw Tigers 15-5

Friday night the Belore Trailers opened the Simcoe Giants Tournament against the Waterloo Tigers.  Ingersoll jumped out to a 2-0 lead early behind Westin Matsumoto's two RBI single that scored Colton Macpherson and Nathan Kapitor. Waterloo scored two of their own runs in their bottom half of the first inning to even the score at 2-2.  Four consecutive singles behind Macpherson, Kapitor, Ashman and Matsumoto saw the Ironbirds get three more runs to take the lead in the third inning.  In the fourth inning the Ironbirds bats started to do some damage as Brandon Plaquet got the ship moving in the right direction with a lead off double, with Tanner Belore, Declan Minielly, Colten Cumberland and Sam House all scoring following four straight hits.  In the final Inning Matsumoto continued his dominance at the dish with an "oppo" double to the gap that was followed up by Owen Vanderbaan's RBI single up the middle.  Plaquet and Belore finished up the inning with back to back singles to give the Ironbirds a 15-5 victory over the Tigers.

Defensive highlights during the game were Ryan Wolfe at the hot corner, and the tandem of Nathan Kapitor and Sam House who completed a "natural double play" in the seventh inning.

Next up for the Ironbirds is the Lasalle Titans at 11:15pm followed by Royal York at 3:45pm.
