Ironbirds Fall Short in Last Inning
Ironbirds lose 17-14 to London West Tin Caps
Wednesday night the Belore Trailers Major Rookie Rep team hosted the second place London West Tin Caps. In the games first two innings the Ironbirds surrendered two costly errors with two out in each inning that London capitalized taking a 6-0 lead.
Heading into the bottom half of the fourth inning trailing 9-1 the Ironbirds rallied to score seven runs that was highlighted by Charlie Ashman's triple that cleared the bases bringing the Ironbirds back to a 9-8 score after four innings. The bottom half of the sixth inning the Ironbirds scored four more runs to take a 14-11 lead into the final inning needing three outs to secure the win. Unfortunately, the Ironbird defense failed to deliver those three outs while holding the lead, as once again costly errors allowed the Tincaps to win the game 17-14.
Defensive highlights in the game, were Colton Macpherson aggressive catch in centerfield, and Ryan Wolfe's line drive stab at third base. Offensive highlights were Charlie Ashman (5 hits), Sam House, Colton Macpherson and Declan Minielly (4 hits) and Ryan Wolfe and Nathan Kapitor (3 hits).
The Ironbirds travel to Simcoe this weekend to compete in the Giants Rookie Tournament, and open against the Waterloo Tigers at 5:00pm (Lions Park).
