Excellent Start
What a game!
In the first inning Kayla scooped up a grounder tossed it to Ava Lively to get the lead runner at second, Ashley fielded a bunt and made a rocket toss to Amelia at first and Em threw heat to get our 3rd out of the inning! Stratford was able to score 2 runs but the Ironbirds were fired up to get them back! Kennedy and a couple others had a keen eye at the plate and the girls smart base running allowed us to score 5 runs!
The second inning was a quick 3 up 3 down strikeouts by Emma which increased the chatter and excitement throughout the team. The enthusiasm continued while we moved runners around the base path. Elise and Amelia both took one for the team, and Ava M singled and sped down the line, and we were able to score another 5 runs!
Payton stretched at first to secure the 3rd out in the top of the inning. And although we allowed two runs the girls were determined to get them back! Stratford switched pitchers and our girls rose to the challenge! Karina hit a single, driving in Shelby who walked earlier while Ashley took an aggressive secondary lead allowing her to steal home on a pass ball.
Karina relieved Emma and the Ironbirds shut down Stratford with a scoreless 4th inning. Ava L hit a single in the bottom of the 4th but we ran out of time before she could score.
An excellent way to start the season! Congratulations Ironbirds!
