TRI-COUNTY SWING
Ironbirds win "3" in Inter-County Action

Last Wednesday the Macnab Transit Ingersoll Ironbirds Major Pee Wee team travelled to the home of the "Great One" to take on the Brantford Red Sox.  Ingersoll jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when catcher Gavin Bryant reached base, stole second and scored on a Wyatt Adkins RBI single. In the bottom half of the first inning the Red Sox scraped together two of their own runs in the bottom half of the first to take a 2-1 lead.  Following the first inning lefty pitcher Evan Hopson went into cruise control retiring the next ten hitters in order. In the bottom half of the sixth inning with two out Nolan McCrossin crushed a triple to right centre to keep the inning alive for the Ironbirds. Next up his fellow Bash Brother Zack Fishback who laced a two strike shot for a two run HR to give the Ironbirds a 3-2 lead.  Fishback came back in the 7th inning to record the save as he retired the Red Sox hitters.
Hopson went 6 innings giving up two runs, striking out five and walking one, while scattering four hits.
Leading the offensive night was Adkins with a double and two singles, Fishback, HR / single, McCrossin a triple, with Bryant, Tye House, Benham Martin, Eli Newson and Davin Gray (2) all adding singles.

This past Thursday night the Ironbirds travelled to Cambridge to take on the Cubs.  Taking the bump for the Ironbirds was Nolan McCrossin (Five Innings, one run, six strikeouts, one walk and scattering three hits) with Eli Newson closing out the game behind a solid outing two innings, one run, three hits, one walk and one strikeout. The Ironbirds were very efficient at the plate accumulating nine walks and some timely key hits to score ten runs. Leading the way for the Ironbirds were Davin Gray two singles (2 RBI), Benham Martin two singles (3 RBI), and Tye House one single (3 RBI).  A very solid 10-2 victory for the Ironbirds.

The following night the Ironbirds make the long tough trek to Guelph battling the 401 construction that pushed the start of the game back to 6:30pm.  In what wasn't the Ironbirds cleanest performance of the year with the pitching staff surrendering nine walks, and some physical errors in the outfield the Ironbirds maintained a very focused eye at the plate manufacturing sixteen walks themselves and were able to score consistently each inning to win a 12-4 contest.
Fishback went 3 2/3 innings striking out six, walking five and giving up two hits.  Adkins went two innings giving up one run on one hit and one walk, while Evan Hopson went 1 1/3 innings giving up one run, striking out two and walking two batters.

Ingersoll pushes their Inter-County record to 10-5 hitting the road on Sunday to complete their Tri-County swing when they face the Kitchener Panthers on Sunday (noon).
