"Belore Boys" Take Two Big Wins This Week
Minor Mosquitos Defeat St. Thomas & Wyoming in LDBA Action

Tuesday night the Belore Trailers Minor Mosquito REP team travelled to St. Thomas to take on the undefeated Cardinals at New York Central Stadium. With the rain and cold weather conditions, the first pitch was delayed for 10 minutes.  Taking the "bump" for the Ironbirds was Declan Minielly. The elements seemed to get the best of the Ironbirds defense in the first inning as they gave up 4 unearned runs to fall behind 4-1.  In the second inning, Colton Macpherson came into the game in relief and did a fantastic job after settling in and giving up 2 runs and striking out one.  The third inning Brandon Plaquet entered the game and put himself in a bit of a jam loading the bases with none out.  Plaquet settled in with the bases loaded and with that "ice water in his veins" struck out the next three Cardinal hitters leaving the inning with no damage done.  That seemed to fire up the boys as they scored 5 runs that inning behind some big hits from Ryan Wolfe & Declan Minielly that tied the game up 6-6. In the top half of the 4th inning Westin Matsumoto came in on relief to face the heart of the Cardinal order and made short work of them recording two big outs. Next came in Colten "CC" Cumberland who gave up a walk and infield single that scored a run, then striking out the final hitter, giving the lead back to St. Thomas 7-6.  Sam House managed to work the count hard and earned himself a much needed walk, then stole second. With two out in the last inning centerfielder Charlie "Chuck" Ashman slammed an RBI double in the outfield gap to score House.  Ryan Wolfe worked towards another walk, and Declan Minielly slapped the go ahead RBI as Ashman scored giving the lead back to the Ironbirds 8-7.  Cumberland came out in the final inning, walked the leadoff hitter, struck out the next, gave up an infield single, walked the next batter to load the bases up with one out.  Cumberland refocused, "Cleared the Mechanism" (What player can name the movie that line came from??) and struck out the final two hitters in dramatic fashion to give the Belore boys the 8-7 win over the top team in the LDBA. Defensive player of the game was rookie catcher Brody Huitema who did a fantastic job with his pitch calling, blocking of potential pass balls and keeping his pitchers focused on the task, all while ignoring the cold and wet weather. Shout out to Ashman on a great job in centerfield with some great tracking abilities.
Returning home Wednesday the Ironbirds behind the bats of Ashman, Westin Matsumoto, Sam House, Tanner Belore, Gavin Wright and Declan Minelly and the strong pitching performance of Cumberland and Matsumoto the Ironbirds defeated the Wyoming Wrangers 16-3 in five innings.  Defensive Players of the Game were Tanner Belore and Brodie Huitema with some great footwork and speed at 1st / 2nd base.
Next up for the boys --- Wednesday night at Victoria Park (6:00pm) vs. London Tecumseh.
